Heard was both a drummer in a number of local Chicago bands and a civil servant. in 1984, feeling creatively stifled by various band mates, he went solo, invested some of his day job savings in a couple of pieces of (now iconic) Roland kit and wrote 'Can You Feel It' in the first couple of days.
